Two dollars a million tokens, ten times cheaper than the GPT-3.5 models it replaced, and the snapshot the first generation of chat apps was written against. Its release note promised support through at least 1 June 2023; it kept answering for fifteen months past that. The list of messages with roles that it introduced is still the shape of the industry's API.
